3 things strike me as odd with the deaths at James Ray Seminars:
- Where did James Ray get his training?
- Who was watching out for his customer’s well being?
- Could anyone stand up to Ray if he pushed people to far?
Then, what credentials did Ray (or any seminar guru) have that entitles them to teach seminar?
- Was James Ray trained to facilitate Native American Sweat Lodges?
- Was Ray Trained / certified / licensed in holotropic breath work?
- Was Ray trained in the art of “Vision Quests”?
As the Arizona Authorities build their case in to a point where it makes sense to prosecute James Arthur Ray for the deaths of 3 people, it saddens me that he will be released on bail almost instantly after arrest. And that his criminal case will take 2 or 3 years to get to trial.
That’s 2 or 3 years that this man will be free while the families and loved ones grieve their losses without any closure. Any civle cases against him will be drawn out and probably settled with strict confidentiality agreements. All in all, the cost of doing business for JRI just got more expensive. But I guess that’s expected when you on the Mission that James Ray is undertaking.
Missions this important have costs and killing an occasional customer or 3 is just collateral damage. Sad, but what other message is Ray sending with his actions?
Three things strike me as strange by your post.
1.) Your assumption that a member of an occupying Colonial power could have access to any sort of “training”, “licensing” or “certification” in what is a SACRED RITE of an oppressed religious minority on this blood-soaked occupied land.
2.) Your Capitialist indoctrination in referring to people who aided and abetted in the exploitation of Native American Spirituality as “customers”
3.) Your complete lack of concern for the exteme pain that this exploitation caused the First Nations people of this contry and your obsession with protecting the health, safety and CONSUMER interests of privilleged WHITE people.
Calling these poor indoctrinated cult members customers is an obsenity. Refusing to even spend ONE SECOND of your time thinking about the spiritual genocide that this evil man has unleashed on the true innocents here – First Nations people – is a crime that doesn’t even have and ENGLISH word to describe it.
Check your whiteness.
Check your entitlement.
Check your assumptions.
Check your love of the Capitalist beast.
You have not even begun to understand this issue from the perspective of the ONLY VICTIMS here – NATIVE PEOPLE!
These so-called customers refused to listen to Native spiritual elders telling them that they had NO BUSINESS in a sweat lodge. They used the POWER of their white dollars to ignore and disrespect our sacred elders and offered the spirits their polluted “intentions.” The SPIRITS taught them that there are powers much greater than all they unearned, undeserved ‘wealth’ can ever muster. Whites who exploit our spirituality are free to either learn from this message and STOP all exploitation of our sacred rites, or they are doomed to repeat this lesson over and over again.
Jim,
Well said and I trust that these events will restore to the Native People’s Spirituality & Spiritual Practices.
